Leap of Faith

"Leap of Faith" scene from Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade (1989)

It's not easy to trust the invisible. In fact, it could be considered a form of insanity to give your life over to something that you cannot even see with your own eyes. And yet, many of us––if not all––have, at some point, like Indiana Jones, been touched by the invisible, whether through an experience of synchronicity or a miracle.

Beneath that experience lies a human emotion––an action––that we call faith. The word faith traces back to the Latin root fidere meaning "to trust." Nowhere in the word does it specify trusting something you cannot touch or see. It simply means to trust: to know that something is true.

But how do you know what is "true"? Ah, the timeless question of philosophy. When you question truth, you inevitably begin to question your own faith, whatever that may be: religion, an institution, your family. I have been down this path many times before, sometimes walking in circles, whispering the words of J. Krishnamurti: "truth is pathless land."

When truth is endlessly interrogated, faith begins to erode. What, then, is left to trust? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. On one hand, someone could feel utterly freed by this notion; on the other, one could feel suffocated by it. Personally, I was suffocating in a dark dungeon of my own making. I didn't even realize until much later that it was due to a lack of faith. Like a typical modern person, I believed all that mattered was my self-will, that through my own effort alone, I would find bliss. Boy, was I wrong.

Today, February 20, 2026, Saturn and Neptune are in exact alignment. This world transit has been unfolding since 2024 and will continue through 2027. I referenced the scene from Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade because the film was released in 1989, when Saturn and Neptune were last in a similar alignment (0º conjunction). In that scene, the invisible bridge emerges only as he takes the leap of faith, a brilliant symbol of this archetypal complex.

The chart of today (February 20, 2026)

Saturn signifies structure, time, difficulty, and material reality, while Neptune signifies transcendence, purity, illusion, and idealism. Together, Saturn-Neptune can express itself through spiritual discipline or existential crises.

There is a sense of fate attached to the archetype of Saturn: the authority of time, the weight of karma. And there is a sense of faith attached to the archetype Neptune: the numinousity of the present, the subtlety of dreams. It's interesting how they almost sound the same: fate and faith. I'm always careful when I utter either one, making sure I enunciate the word I intend to communicate. So different, yet so similar. Almost as though...fate is found in faith.

So there's not much else to say, except this: this is your moment, take that leap of faith because your fate is at stake.

Mythic Wisdom

Alcoholics Anonymous on God

One night, when confined in a hospital, he was approached by an alcoholic who had known a spiritual experience. Our friend's gorge rose as he bitterly cried out: "If there is a God, He certainly hasn't done anything for me!" But later, alone in his room, he asked himself this question: "Is it possible that all the religious people I have known are wrong?" While pondering the answer he felt as though he lived in hell. Then, like a thunderbolt, a great thought came. It crowded out all else:

"Who are you to say there is no God?"

This man recounts that he tumbled out of bed to his knees. In a few seconds he was overwhelmed by a conviction of the Presence of God. It poured over and through him with the certainty and majesty of a great tide flood. The barriers he had built through years were swept away. He had stepped from bridge to shore. For the first time, he lived in conscious companionship with his Creator.

Thus was our friend's cornerstone fixed in place. No later vicissitude has shaken it. His alcoholic problem was taken away. That very night, years ago, it disappeared. Save for a few brief moments of temptation the thought of drink has never returned; and at such times a great revulsion has risen up in him. Seemingly he could not drink even if he would. God had restored his sanity.
